Easter Sunday in Beckenham

Easter was celebrated in Beckenham, Kent, with our Uncle Peter and Aunty Mary, and Wigbert.  Brad, Maya and I started Easter Sunday at St. Edmund of Canterbury with a morning mass.  It was nice visiting a different church and having the mass delivered in a very traditional manner, even using Latin.

After mass, we decided to take a walk up and down the High Street.  The little village was pretty much closed for Easter; however, we were still able to find a nice coffee shop and do a little shopping.

When we got back after our morning outing, we walked into a house that boasted the flavors of a traditional English Easter lunch.  The aroma of roasting leg of lamb and potatoes wafted through the air and in the kitchen, our gracious hosts were buys peeling, mashing, glazing, basting, and taste-testing.  Maya got a visit from the Easter bunny and also got to decorate a beatiful Easter tree.

Uncle Peter and Mary served roasted leg of lamb with a mint and black currant sauce, roasted new potatoes, steamed carrots, peas, and beans, gravy, and for dessert, we had strawberry pie.

After dinner, Maya got to play on the scooter that Uncle Peter and Aunty Mary gave her.  She mastered it rather quickly.  It's too bad that we didn't have place in our suitcase to bring it back.

To work off our wonderful meal, we then took a walk around Beckenham Place Park - where spring was in full bloom.
